About Christ the King Catholic Church
Fr Longing Buhake
AdministratorChrist the King Catholic Church in Freeport, Florida, is a welcoming and faith-filled parish rooted in humble beginnings and sustained by a strong spirit of community. What began in the late 1980s as a small gathering of Catholic families in a living room has grown into a vibrant mission parish serving both English- and Spanish-speaking faithful. Built through the generosity, sacrifice, and dedication of its founding members, the parish has become a spiritual home where families encounter Christ, celebrate the sacraments, and grow together in faith.
Today, Christ the King continues to flourish under the pastoral care of Fr. Longin Buhake, serving the growing Catholic community of Freeport with devotion and care. The parish remains committed to fostering a strong sense of belonging, deepening its sacramental life, and welcoming new families into its community. With a legacy rooted in perseverance and love, Christ the King stands as a testament to what God can accomplish through a faithful and united parish family.

Restored Order of the Sacraments
Christ the King Parish has transitioned to the restored order of the Sacraments of Initiation in accordance with the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee and the guidance of Bishop William Wack. In this restored order, children receive the sacraments in their traditional sequence: Baptism, First Reconciliation, Confirmation, and First Eucharist.
This restoration reflects the Church’s long-standing tradition and emphasizes that each sacrament builds upon the grace of the previous one. By receiving Confirmation prior to First Eucharist, children are first strengthened by the gifts of the Holy Spirit, preparing them to more fully participate in the Eucharist—the source and summit of our faith.
This change also highlights that the sacraments are not a “completion” of faith formation, but the beginning of a lifelong journey with Christ. Parents, as the primary educators of their children in the faith, are supported by the parish in forming young disciples who continue to grow in knowledge, love, and service to God.
To learn more about this transition, we invite you to read Bishop Wack’s pastoral letter: https://ptdiocese.org/restoredorderpastoralletter?utm_source=chatgpt.com
Baptism
Baptism is the first sacrament of initiation, through which we are welcomed into the Church and become children of God. Through water and the Holy Spirit, we are cleansed of sin and begin our new life in Christ, surrounded by a community that supports us in faith.
First Reconciliation
In First Reconciliation, children encounter God’s mercy in a personal and powerful way. Through the Sacrament of Confession, they learn to recognize God’s love, seek forgiveness, and experience the joy and peace that come from being reconciled with Him.
Confirmation
Confirmation strengthens the grace received at Baptism through the gift of the Holy Spirit. In this sacrament, young people are sealed with the Spirit and empowered to live their faith boldly, becoming active witnesses of Christ in the world.
First Eucharist
In First Eucharist, children receive the Body and Blood of Christ for the first time, entering more fully into the life of the Church. The Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith, nourishing us and drawing us into deeper union with Jesus.
Holy Matrimony
Holy Matrimony is a beautiful sacrament in which a man and a woman are united in a lifelong covenant of love, reflecting Christ’s love for His Church. Strengthened by God’s grace, couples are called to grow together in faith, support one another in every season of life, and build a family rooted in love, joy, and holiness. If you are considering marriage, we would be honored to walk with you in your preparation.
Convalidation
(Having Your Marriage Blessed)
If you were married outside of the Catholic Church or your marriage has not yet been recognized sacramentally, the Church warmly invites you to have your marriage blessed through a process called convalidation. This simple and grace-filled step brings your marriage into the fullness of the Church and allows you to fully participate in the sacramental life. We are here to guide you every step of the way with care and support.
Annulment Information
If you have experienced divorce and are seeking clarity about your marital status in the Church, the annulment process offers a path of healing and understanding. An annulment is a careful and prayerful review by the Church to determine whether a valid sacramental marriage existed. This process is meant to bring peace, healing, and freedom as you continue your journey of faith. Our parish is here to accompany you with compassion and confidentiality.
For more information or to begin the process, please contact Tricia Lujan at (646) 596-3406
Family Faith Formation
Family Faith Formation is a journey rooted in the understanding that parents are the primary educators of their children in the faith. In response to the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee’s restored order of the Sacraments—Baptism, First Reconciliation, Confirmation, and First Eucharist—our parish is committed to forming not only children, but the entire family in a living and active faith.
This restored order reflects the Church’s ancient tradition and reminds us that the sacraments are not a graduation, but the beginning of a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ. By receiving Confirmation before First Eucharist, children are strengthened by the Holy Spirit and more fully prepared to participate in the Eucharist, the source and summit of our faith.
Our Family Faith Nights take place on the last Thursday of each month during the school year. We begin with Family Adoration and the opportunity for Confession, creating space to encounter Christ together. Families then break into small groups—fathers, mothers, and children—for formation and discussion, before coming back together to share a meal and build community.
Through prayer, learning, and fellowship, Family Faith Formation helps families grow together in faith and build a strong foundation that continues well beyond sacramental preparation.
